Badr Alkhamissi

Badr works at the intersection of natural language processing, machine learning, and cognitive neuroscience. His research explores how large language models can be adapted to advance our understanding of the human brain and behavior. 

Using meta-learning, he is developing models that can better capture the neural and behavioral responses of unseen individuals or populations. These models can serve as an in-silico test bed: a computational environment for generating predictions about how real brains may respond. His work focuses particularly on cognitive disorders, and could eventually support more refined diagnosis and intervention, especially for under-represented populations for which little data exists. 

Based between the NLP Lab and the NeuroAI Lab, Badr brings together perspectives from AI and neuroscience: drawing on cognitive science to build better computational models and using those models to investigate how the brain works.
